Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund leases approx. 28,000 sqm of office space in the HGHI project "Pedestrian zone Gorkistraße / Tegel Quartier".

Berlin, 04.10.2019

The Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund becomes the new tenant in the HGHI project "Pedestrian zone Gorkistraße". The nationwide operating institution of the statutory pension insurance of the Federal Republic of Germany has rented an office space of approx. 28,000 sqm and is expected to move into it in summer/autumn 2021.

In 2016, HGHI acquired the former Tegel-Center and the former Hertie-Haus in the 250-metre-long pedestrian zone Gorkistraße. Some of these buildings were demolished or extensively modernised and extended. HGHI is rebuilding the approx. 45-year-old pedestrian zone on approx. 80% of all parts of the building.

The modernization of the old pedestrian zone Gorkistraße is one of the first refurbishments of a complete pedestrian zone in Germany. By 2021, a modern pedestrian zone with approx. 100 shops on approx. 36,000 sqm retail space, approx. 28,000 sqm office space and approx. 320 parking spaces will be built here. The traditional market hall Tegel, which looks back on 100 years of history, will be reintegrated into the pedestrian zone.

With the conclusion of the rental agreement of the German Pension Insurance Association, a pre-letting rate of almost 90 % was achieved. "With the DRV Bund, an important anchor tenant for the pedestrian zone in Tegel has been found, who will make a considerable contribution to an attractive revival of the location. We are very proud of how the project development is currently progressing," says Harald Gerome Huth, owner of HGHI Holding GmbH.

Thanks to its immediate proximity to the suburban and underground railways, the shopping street has an optimal connection to local public transport.
